Meridian Chari hotel in N'Djamena, Chad
The Meridian Chari hotel

Securing a reservation at a hotel in N’Djamena can be challenging.  Many other towns in Chad completely lack hotels.  This section lists hotels in the capital along with a few tips for your lodging experience.

Obtaining Hotel Reservations In Chad

Calling internationally to Chad is oftentimes difficult.  Skype has been found to be one of the least reliable methods to call to Chad, with calling cards ranking as the most reliable.  We would recommend PhoneCardSmile.com’s Chimba Africa calling card. Still, you may find yourself listening to busy tones or empty air while attempting to contact Chad.  As an alternative to calling, you can write, email, or fax hotels. Our researchers have also had difficulty with faxing to Chad, and we would recommend writing for a reservation (but of course this will need to be done well in advance).  A recent attempt at emailing over eight hotels in N’Djamena yielded one return email – from the Novotel.

The Novotel

The Novotel is one of N’Djamena’s most popular hotels with foreigners.  Nevertheless, it is expensive.  The email that was received from a Novotel staff member, in French and (poor) translation below, should be revealing.

[english]
The Novotel Chad thanks you for having thought of our hotel for your upcoming stay.  Our standard rooms are priced at 113,500 XAF (173.3 euros) per day and include breakfast.

A special tariff of 93 500 XAF (142.8 euros) can be granted to you for any reservation carried out 10 days before arrival (according to arrival).  [This part comes across as unclear, and a better translation may be revealing]

A visitor’s tax of 5,500 XAF (8.40 euros) is applied per day.  Transportation from the airport to the hotel is assured by the shuttle for each international flight.  The hotel is 2 minutes from the airport and 5 minutes from the town center and a park on the banks of the Chari river.

In the hope to accommodate you,

At current currency rates, the above email indicates nightly prices at the Novotel exceed $260. If you have institutional funding or a hefty budget, the Novotel is a great choice.  Also on the same price level are the Libya Hotel in north-central N’Djamena and the Meridien Chari in the south-west of the city.  More details on these hotels are given in the listings section.  Although the Novotel used to claim a near monopoly in N’Djamena, a series of reasonably priced hotels have sprung up in recent years.

N'Djamena Hotel List

Below is a partial listing of hotels in N’Djamena, drawing from data gathered by Chad NOW researchers in March 2008.  Contact information was taken from a number of sources.  Some phone numbers and email addresses are taken from signs (billboards) in N’Djamena, and other contact information was acquired by visiting the hotel in person.  All information below should be reliable, and we will attempt to update the information in an appropriate time frame.

NOTE:  This page previously contained a listing from the publication Chad:  A Country Study Guide.  Our researchers found the information from this guide to be inaccurate and out of date, so we do not recommend relying on it as a source.  Nevertheless, you may still view it here.  Also, Mbendi travel provides a listing of hotels in N’Djamena and email addresses.  Our researchers find most of the email addresses do not yield responses, but it is a good source nonetheless.
